The City of Lock Haven provides 24-hour police protection. The City employs a total of 12 uniformed police officers and 4 non-uniform police personnel.

In 1996, the City initiated a Community Policing Program funded through a grant through the Federal Enterprise Zone. All City officers have been trained in Community Oriented Policing techniques to facilitate a greater understanding between the police and the citizens they serve, as well as to forge a trusting partnership designed to address crime and other community problems. While this grant has since expired, the police continue to practice the principles of community Policing which have proven to enhance not only their relationship with the community, by address crime and quality of life issues as well.

The police department also employs an officer who has been trained and certified in D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) instruction. The D.A.R.E. program is nationally recognized and serves to provide the youth of our community with the tools they need to recognize and deal with the subtle pressures that influence many children to experiment with drugs, alcohol, gangs and violence. This same officer also participates in the "Officer Phil" program which is of similar design and intent, but addresses the younger children in the comunity.

Several City officers also participate with the Pennsylvania Attorney General, Bureau of Narcotics Investigation Task Force which specifically investigates drug offenses. This task force operates on a Regional basis to identify and arrest those who would plague our communities with drugs.
