Drifters is named for their favorite
hangout on the west branch of the Susquehanna River. The Lockport Drifters is a
four member acoustic string band that plays a variety of musical styles from
traditional bluegrass and old timey favorites to classic rock, country, folk,
and gospel standards. Best known for
their strong vocals and harmony, relaxed performance style and reverence for
fun, the group also adds unique arrangements and instrumentals to their
traditionally spirited music.
Formed in 2001, the band has many years of combined experience playing for
diverse audiences in a variety if venues throughout central Pennsylvania.
Phil Reeder. A popular local talent and artists has been playing the area
since the late 60’s. He is
currently a member of several area bands and is equally will known for his solo
performances. Dale Haines is a
popular area guitar player known for his raucous vocals and humorous interaction
with an audience. He and Reeder were
former members of the Last Complete Show, a popular and award winning
traditional bluegrass band with both TV and radio credits that toured PA and New
York throughout the 1980’s and early 90’s.
Playing at the same time and in many of the same spots Lucy McLaughlin
plated mandolin for Buckdancer’s Choice Time String Band, who specializes in
traditional “Old Timey” Appalachian and Irish fiddle tunes, traditionally
dance, and story telling. Member
Phil Ponish has made the rounds playing bass and guitar in several popular area
bands, past and present, performing classic and contemporary rock and country,
southern rock, jazz, and swing. His
Dobro (resophonic guitar) and old time country voice gave the band a distinctive
sound.
